President Geoff opened the meeting of the 
Rotary Club of Lafayette at 12:35 PM.
He acknowledged Troy Winkles, as the greeter of the day. After a thoughtful opening, Troy led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:  President Geoff asked for recognition of visiting Rotarians and guests. Steve Pollack was introduced from the Orinda club and Liz Vargas, Director of meals on Wheels, was introduced as a guest.








We were told member Bob Ewen  is convalescing and hopes to come home soon. Bob has been acknowledged by the Sunshine Committee, but he will welcome your calls.

Pete Bourbonis advised us that the East Bay area 'Stand Down' for veterans retuning from Iraq was very successful. He thanks Rotarians and others who supported this important effort.

Troy Winkles reaffirmed to us  of the Rotary Wine and Golf Classic on October 4, 2010. Each Rotarian is being given five(5)raffle tickets. Pleas return the ticket stubs and your checks to John Sherry, Raffle Ticket Chairman.

Mike Heller repeated his invitation to his home for a potluck on Sunday, August 29.   Chuck Vogel will bring a sign up to the next meeting(Aug. 26)for food category choices[Salad, Entre', Dessert.

President Geoff passed around a sign-up sheet for jobs at the Lafayette Art and Wine Festival. This event is the second  premier challenge of the City of Lafayette[The Concert at the Rez is the other]every year. It is a time for our club to show its value to the community..

John Sherry commented on the progress of the stage at the reservoir. Our club is almost there in getting approvals, permits and environmental conditions accomplished. John has taken our club to the next level of commitment of The Rotary Club of Lafayette  to the citizens.

Don Anderson asked us to bring food and clothing on August 26. {As the political figures continue to argue, your scribe doubts anything is being done} Lets our club show the disposed that Rotarians do care.

Our guest, Liz Vargas, thanked our club for its commitment to Meals on Wheels. In these times of religious, political uncertainty and strife,she asked us to commit to those  who would not have shelter or food without generosity.

Steve Falk, gave Happy$ on his completion of the John Muir Trail.  An achievement that few have accomplished.[Your scribe is the father of two Eagle Scouts.] Our club will want to hear more about this accepted and met challenge.

Troy Fedderson gave us an introduction to 'beer' that rose to the next level. Troy  revealed to us the secrets of 'beer'. Its not swill:
Its Art. Troy gave us the basics:"Beer" is 'malted' barley, hops and water. From these 'paints', Art what the artist[Beermaster]renders.

"They are still celebrating," says Virginia Barr, liaison to the Interact Club of Communities-in-Schools at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, USA, which was the 2009 Interact video contest grand-prize winner.

The Rotary Club of Lafayette donates an LN-4 Prosthetic Hand in the name of our speakers each week.
The LN-4 Prosthetic Hand transforms lives and empowers those who have lost hands and limbs due to land mines, birth defects, and other catastrophes.
