Today’s Speaker:
Our guest speaker today was Matt Shriner form the Lafayette Senior Commission

The Lafayette Senior Commission’s objective is to support our Senior community by providing Education, Transportation and by being an advocate for the Senior Village and Downtown Senior Center. Matt noted that his group is partnering with the Lafayette Community Foundation.

The concept for the Lamorinda Senior Village program came from Boston’s Beacon Hill model. The goal is to help allow our community’s seniors to “age in place” by fostering a sense of community and to help mitigate the risk of isolation. Local examples of a Senior Village include Berkeley’s Ashby Village; Palo Alto’s Avenidas Village, and North Oakland’s Senior village

Matt shared a plan in progress to use the Rec Center as a Senior Center. The City of Lafayette has offered a piece of property at 941-949 Moraga Road with the idea that it could be turned into a Senior Center. A local architect (Robert Swatt) has assisted with several concept sketches of what it might look like.

Matt shared that Terry Ring estimated that the cost to renovate the Rec Center might run between $500k - $650k.

Raffle:
Today’s raffle was for $55. Larry Duson won both the $32 draw and the jackpot. Congratulations Larry D!
