Jim Minder is a landscape contractor who is passionate about 9/11 and remembering those lost. He wants to bring a piece of the World Trade Center to Lafayette to display. Those interested in donating to Remembering 9/11 can do so by contacting Jim.

Bob Shusta gave $$ for John coming back early from his trip to Alaska.

Norma Evans celebrated her birthday and is thankful for the recent events in her life.

Maurice was happy to see so many people and to see both Larry’s present.

Dick Holt was happy to be back from his family reunion.

Larry gave $$ upon his return from his trip and fined Alicia (the note taker and Sergeant at Arms) for not mentioning his payment in the notes from last week. Alicia paid up!

Speaker-
Dave Baker from Terrace of Lafayette Apartments (O’Brien Homes) was our speaker. He gave us some insight into the project which brings affordable living to Lafayette. Apartments will range between 750-1290 sq feet and will be priced similar to those at Towne Center Apartments. They will be located on the corner of Pleasant Hill Rd and Deer Hill Rd. These apartments will be a great addition to Lafayette and also allow those working in Lafayette to also be able to live here.

The doctor is in

Hours after a massive earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, Claude Surena, a physician, turned his home into a makeshift triage center, sheltering more than 100 injured people.  

Using the limited supplies of medicine and food that Rotarians had managed to collect, Surena, his wife, and other volunteers cared for victims, many of whom were in critical condition. The capital city of Port-au-Prince was damaged extensively, making communication almost impossible and resources scarce. 

“It was difficult to witness so many people suffering and not have the capacity to give them the help they needed,” says Surena, president of the Haitian Medical Association. “I wanted to give as many people as I could some level of comfort.”
